Harsh Vibes Bringing Ya Down? Try This: Making Friends with Creator, Inspired by Santa Teresa de Avila

By April 12, 2024Uncategorized

I have to be honest, I’ve been so damn overwhelmed over the last few weeks, and I have a feeling I’m not the only one, so I wanted to share a sweet practice with you that has helped me a lot and that I just created this week.

This gentle practice was inspired by one of the mystic Catholic Saints, Saint Teresa de Avila, who I made some intuitive contact with over the weekend.

Saint Teresa had a deep communion with Spirit, and she saw her relationship with God/Creator/Great Spirit as a true friendship. One that wasn’t scary, but was kind and supportive.

I created this process with Saint Teresa’s contemplation method in mind for our members’ community, the Inner Sanctum, and wanted to share it with you, because it’s already helped me so much this week.

Making Friends with Creator, Inspired by Santa Teresa de Avila

Prepping
Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably without distractions. Take a few deep breaths to center yourself. Open your heart to the presence of your version of the Creator.

Begin with Gratitude
Reflect on the blessings of the day, no matter how small. Acknowledge the Goodly presence in all aspects of your life.

Say, “Thank You, Creator for your endless gifts and for your love that sustains me.”

Purification (all the I’m Sorries)
Acknowledge your imperfections and perceived mistakes to this loving being. You can ask for forgiveness if you like, and ask for a cleansing of these burdens from your heart.

Scripture or Affirmation Reflection
You can choose any affirmation or part of a holy book or favorite quote for this. I chose something ultra short and easy from Corinthians…

“Love is patient, love is kind.”

You can choose any phrase that you like to contemplate. You will use it like what some might call a “mantra”, but it will be silent… Whatever phrase you choose, you can read it slowly and silently over and over again.

Let the words penetrate your heart, as if your version of our Creator or Great Spirit, or even your Holy Guardian Angel, or Jesus, is speaking these words directly to you, saying them intimately to you, as a friend would. Reflect on what it means to be a friend of our Creator.

Chatting with the Creator
When you feel ready, move into a conversation with the Creator/ Great Spirit, speaking to them as you would to a dear friend. Share your thoughts, worries, joys, and desires. Be open and honest. Listen quietly for a response.

St. Teresa believed that our Creator speaks to the soul in the depths of silence.

Union
Imagine the Creator walking hand and hand with you, taking you into the deepest part of your heart that is pure Beauty and Divine essence. In this center is where the Great Spirit lives within you.

Offering
In this radiance, you can say something along the lines of, “I offer you my my heart. Use me. Help me love you more. Help me serve Love in everything that I do.”

You can say whatever feels right for you here. Just giving you a picture with this.

Closing with Love
End your meditation by resting in Creator’s Love. Imagine this Love enveloping you, filling every part of your being with peace, warmth, and comfort.

Say, “Thank You for this time together. Help me to carry Your love into the world.”

Journal
Go ahead and take some time to reflect on your experience with journaling.

Anyhoo, it’s been pretty powerful for me, so I’m hoping it supports you as you walk through the jungle of your own life. 🙂

Make it a daily practice for a while, and let me know how it goes.

Help is on its way…
